A simple walk through downtown Guadalajara became the beginning of a life-changing journey for Gloria. While passing by, she was approached by our sister Bere, who offered her a flyer and invited her to learn more about Islam. Gloria stopped, listened, and began asking questions. What started as a brief conversation soon became something much deeper.
As the Dawah team explained the core beliefs of Islam, Gloria found herself agreeing with what she was hearing. She was introduced to the Qur’an and learned about the Islamic belief in Allah, the angels, and the prophets. With every question the sisters asked, Gloria found that she believed in what Islam taught. There was a sense of clarity and peace that resonated with her.
When Gloria was asked whether she wanted to take her Shahadah, she agreed—but she wanted the moment to happen somewhere peaceful and meaningful. The sisters therefore accompanied her to the Dawah Centre, where she was able to take her Shahadah in a calm and welcoming environment. With the guidance of the sisters, Gloria testified in Spanish before repeating the Shahadah in Arabic: Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah. The room filled with the takbirs of Allahu Akbar as Gloria officially entered Islam.

For the sisters at the Dawah Centre, the journey does not end with the Shahadah. It is only the beginning. Sister Monica immediately began speaking with Gloria about what comes next, helping her understand her new faith and reassuring her that she would not be walking this journey alone. The sisters are committed to staying connected with her, teaching her, answering her questions, and helping her grow in her understanding of Islam.
This sense of sisterhood is especially important for new Muslim women. Adjusting to a new faith can bring challenges, particularly when it comes to practices such as hijab and facing questions or misunderstanding from people around them. Having a supportive community can make a tremendous difference. At the Dawah Centre, Gloria has found not only the message of Islam, but also sisters ready to stand beside her as she begins this new chapter.
What began with a flyer on the streets of Guadalajara ultimately led Gloria to the Shahadah and, as she described through her journey, the peace she had been searching for. Alhamdulillah, her story is a beautiful reminder that sometimes a single conversation, a simple invitation, or a moment of genuine listening can become the means through which Allah opens a person’s heart to Islam.
