In the final days of the previous Ramadan, a woman named Mercedes in Paraguay encountered Islam for the very first time. What began as a simple introduction quickly became something far deeper. From the moment she started learning about the faith, she felt certain that she did not want to spend another day without being Muslim.
Mercedes’ journey to this point had been marked by hardship and responsibility. Becoming a mother as a teenager, she raised her daughter largely on her own. The loss of her father left her feeling even more isolated, and for years her life revolved around survival. Alongside the daily struggles, she carried difficult questions within herself — wondering why life had been so heavy and why peace seemed so distant.
About a year and a half ago, she moved with her daughter from Argentina to Paraguay in search of a fresh start. It was during this new chapter of her life that Islam entered her heart.

As Mercedes began reading the Qur’an, she was surprised by how natural its teachings felt to her. Rather than discovering something unfamiliar, she felt as though she had finally found the path she had been following all along. The values, principles, and way of life she encountered in Islam resonated deeply with her, giving her a sense of certainty she had never experienced before.
Today, Mercedes describes Islam with one powerful word: security. She explains that Islam fills her heart with peace, love, and certainty in Allah’s protection. It has brought her answers to questions she once carried alone and has helped her become more compassionate and hopeful. Most importantly, she says, Islam has softened the pain and struggles she endured for so many years, replacing them with comfort and purpose.
