A Leap of Faith: The Story of Musa

Fred, a 52-year-old Christian, lived a life colored by fear. He had been told that Muslims were terrorists, and he kept a wary distance, his heart hardened by prejudice and misinformation. But fate has a curious way of revealing truth, and for Fred, it arrived in the most unexpected form: his own children.

One evening during the holy month of Ramadan, his two young boys, fueled by curiosity and a rumbling stomach, slipped away from home. They followed the sounds and smells to a nearby mosque, where they were welcomed with open arms and offered a feast prepared to break the fast. When they returned home, they excitedly recounted how they had enjoyed the delicious food, a simple act of charity that had left a deep impression on them.

Fred was stunned. He had never seen such a display of selfless generosity within his own church community. How could a person he had been taught to fear be so kind to his children? A seed of curiosity was planted in his heart, and it began to grow. Time passed, and one day, he approached the Imam of the mosque. He thanked him for the kindness shown to his sons, his words a testament to his shifting perspective. In a gesture that surprised even himself, he entrusted one of his sons to the Imam, deciding to give him to Islam.

Later, Fred was met by IERA Uganda duats, who shared with him the core tenets of Islam: the oneness of God and the prophethood of His messengers. Fred listened, but his mind was on something else entirely. He cut them short, declaring his admiration for Islam’s cleanliness, specifically the act of removing shoes before entering the mosque. He saw it as a pure and reverent practice, unlike what he was used to in church.

The duats smiled and explained that this tradition wasn’t just about cleanliness; it was a divine command. They told him the story of Prophet Musa (Moses) on Mount Sinai, whom God commanded to remove his sandals because he was standing on holy ground. The story resonated deeply with Fred, connecting his Christian background to this new faith in a way he had never imagined.

That moment was the final turning point. He no longer needed to see for himself; his heart was ready. Fred decided to follow his son into Islam, taking the Shahada and embracing his new identity. In honor of the story that had illuminated his path, he adopted the name Musa. His journey from fear to faith was complete, guided by the simple kindness of strangers and a truth he had found on holy ground.
