Sister Cathy journey to Islam began when an IERA outreach specialist met her in her garden as she was preparing to begin cultivation. The outreach specialist approached her politely and introduced himself, explaining that he was a Muslim and that they were conducting door-to-door outreach in the village to teach people about Islam. He asked Cathy if she had some time to talk, and she gladly agreed. This simple encounter created an opportunity for them to have a meaningful conversation about faith and the purpose of worship.
During their conversation, the outreach specialist asked Cathy how she understood Jesus. She explained that she believed Jesus was the Son of God and, at the same time, God Himself. The outreach specialist listened respectfully and then asked her to reflect on how Jesus, who was born to Mary, could be both God and the Son of God. He further asked whether God could be born or become a son. Cathy remained silent for almost five minutes, carefully thinking about the questions. Eventually, she responded that God could not be born or become a son.
The outreach specialist then explained the Islamic belief in the oneness of Allah, emphasizing that Allah is One, has no partner, and is not like His creation. He explained that Muslims believe Jesus (Prophet Isa, peace be upon him) was a great prophet and messenger of Allah, sent to guide people to worship the One true God. He also clarified that Muslims love and respect Jesus but do not worship him as God. These explanations helped Cathy reflect on her beliefs and understand the Islamic teaching about the oneness of Allah.
After listening to the explanation, Cathy found the message of Islam convincing and decided to embrace the religion. She took the Shahadah, declaring her belief in Allah as the One true God and in Prophet Muhammad as His Messenger.
